about ensemble chronophonie
ensemble
chronophonie was formed in 2001 by recent graduates of the Musikhochschule
Freiburg. Having already gathered experience in ensembles such as
Ensemble Modern and Ensemble Aventure, ensemble chronophonie aims
to provide an alternative to the now conventional new music establishment.
In its short history, the ensemble already looks back on a sizeable
number of successful projects which highlight the focus of their
work: intimate collaboration with composers whose works often confront
musical traditions, consciously stand apart from them, or are on
the brink of receiving general recognition;
Programme conception which draws attention to "unheard" connections,
often beyond the purely acoustical; Recognition of composers who
- mistakenly - are rarely performed (such as Erhard Karkoschka or
Francisco Guerrero); Confrontation of older, yet in their time breakthrough
works, with the newest aesthetic suggestions (Stravinsky - Bernal
; Stockhausen - Grebtschenko ; Varèse - Billian).
ensemble chronophonie was awarded a Grant-in-Aid by the Ernst-von-Siemens
Music Foundation and a scholarship of the Kunststiftung (Cultural
Foundation) Baden-Württemberg.
